Hey there! I’m Gerry.

Welcome to my website! It’s a work-in-progress (as is my life), so please bear with me as I make this thing work for you and me!

I’m a visual artist working in multiple media including new media such as Non-linear Video Editing, Special FX, and Motion Graphics. I have a BFA in Painting, an MEd in Art Education, and am certified to teach Spanish and Art at the K-12 level.

Lately, I enjoy digital photography, nature, hiking, camping, studying Mythology and Depth Psychology. As usual, I am most likely trying to do too many things at one time, and once I slow down a bit, I will gain some insight and decide to from there.

I also love reading poetry.

In this poem by internationally-renowned writer, Federico Garcia Lorca, the poet is able to reach astounding levels of depth in shockingly few lines.

Poetry makes us think. And here, Lorca asks us:

  • What does it mean to “find your voice?”
  • Why does the little boy look for his voice in a drop of water?
  • What is the connection, if any, between the ‘king of crickets’ and the little boy’s inability to speak?
  • Why would someone make a ring out of his silence?
  • How might a water droplet be linked to a cricket?

The Little Mute Boy

~by Federico Garcia Lorca

The little boy was looking for his voice.
(The king of the crickets had it.)
In a drop of water
the little boy was looking for his voice.

I do not want it for speaking with;
I will make a ring of it
so that he may wear my silence
on his little finger

In a drop of water
the little boy was looking for his voice.

(The captive voice, far away,
put on a cricket’s clothes.)

(unless I specify otherwise – which I always will).

The Bridge.

Chattanooga, TN, 2012.

Is it possible for me to act as a bridge as so many elders and mystics have told me it is my purpose here to be? I often think this to myself as I do research, take walks, grab a bight to eat. “You are here to be a bridge”. I have been told that by someone reading my complete astrological chart to me, someone doing at intuitive reading using a mixture of Tarot cards and numerology, a fortune teller reading my palm, a good-willed entity during a visionary experience, a Mayan Tata in the middle of the gift shop outside of Tikal National Park in Guatemala, and again by a Native American Healer who led my companions and I through a traditional Sweat Lodge ceremony during which we encountered a spider while he and his assistant went outside to replace the cooled down rocks underground with us with the red-hot rocks at the center of the fire pit outside.

It’s been a theme for many years now.

“You are here to be a bridge for the people.”

Make me your bridge. <3

My other muses are music, nature, hiking, theatre, and, at times, I even enjoy song-writing or improvising on the piano.

If you haven’t yet seen the writing on the wall yet, I really like taking photos… and I love the experimentation that is available to us these days in the digital age. Photography has always been about light and shadow, but the digital realm allows an immediacy to that part of the process that gives us the precision of a surgeon and also the spontaneity of an electric guitarist in a classic rock band. Layers and layers – a metaphor for how to find meaning in the life chaos that surrounds us. Yoga, Tantra, Karma, Dharma, Self, and self. Atma and … the feeling of sudden awareness that comes when the hero realizes he is alone on a single precipice surrounded by the Great Abyss. Usul, Paul Mua’Dib. Paul Atreides – trained by his Bene Gesserit Mother in the ways of the Sisterhood. Trained, also, from infancy, as is proper, in the ways of the Mentat. “And how can this be? For he is the Quisat-Hatarac!”
