Gazing out at the wine dark sea…
The ‘wine-dark sea’ is an epithet commonly used by Homer in his famous epics to denote a time of day, and a passage of time. Due to the volcanic conditions of the sky in the Hellenic landscape, the sea looked a purple-red, similar to the color of red wine.
